Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...

IMPRESSIONISM!!!
Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement that originated with a group of Paris-based artists whose independent exhibitions brought them to prominence during the 1870s and 1880s. The name of the style is derived from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression,  (Impression), which provoked the critic to coin the term in a satiric review published in the Parisian newspaper.
Characteristics of Impressionist paintings include relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes; open composition; emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time); common, ordinary subject matter; the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience; and unusual visual angles.

Artist : Elena Kapustina

Elena Kapustina, is a Russian oil painter who swears by the theme impressionism.

She was born in Ryazan, Russia. In the period 1984-1989 studied in the Ryazan state pedagogical institute. After graduating from the institute she worked at school as a teacher of drawing. Was the head of the Fine art studio. Working with children Elena found her original style. She takes an active part in many regional exhibitions. Many of her artworks are in private collections of Russia, Spain, Italy, the USA, Germany. There is not much said about her and her work but her art work is well known among art lovers who admire them. She inspires me through her work and dedication towards her art pieces. After doing a research on her,i realised she is a very shy person and prefers to express herself through her paintings. She travels a lot hence her paintings show what her eyes see as she travels.

The beauty of life and the joy of living is what Elena expresses in her canvases. Her art work is basically based on reality and then a touch of fantasy is thrown in to mesmerize her art work.

   OLD MILL
The Elements of Design.
Line : There are linear and curvy linear lines used in this painting. The artist used the edge of the brush to create the lines or shape.

Shape : Many shapes in this painting is formed through lines that created illusions of the object that is shown.

Size : As there are so many colours used, the size of the wooden house painted looks small compared to its surrounding.

Texture : As this is an oil painting, the texture is rough and glossy. The pain is overlapped hence creating different shades in the painting.

Colour : There are many colours used in this painting. Most of the colours took form through the combination of a few colours.

Direction : The directions used in this painting is mostly oblique. The oblique direction gives the painting a sense of movement in a circular direction.

The Principles of Design.
Balance : This painting has an asymmetrical balance..The placement of the focus object is far towards the left of the painting. Thus the painting is not very balanced .

Rhythm : This painting has a timed movement through space; an easy, connected path along where the eye follows a regular arrangement of colours and motifs.

Emphasis : The emphasis in this painting is the wooden house. The movement in the painting actually draws the viewer's attention towards the wooden house. The contrast of the size and colour also makes it  stand out in the painting.

Below are few other paintings on the theme impressionism.
